This is the first year my husband and I tithed and gave beyond our level of ease. We feel the pinch especially because I am newly retired. There has been slight traces of doubt and worry but never for long. For three months now, the first of the month comes and we write out the check. There are times, too, when I can't wait to do it! I am eager to respond to all the love he pours on me with the care he gives here and now in the present. Our church is struggling and in debt, yet, EVEN THAT, I must let go of. I cannot put my focus on anything or anyone else but him or I become shaky. God answers my prayers, he leads me, he teaches me. He comforts and guides me. God is Good and God is Great. Now and always. Amen!

I believe that when ones church is struggling to make ends meet it is usually an indication that disciples who are members of the congregation fail to understand the concept of giving as a priority in kingdom living. If this is true in the church, it should raise the red flag to all ministries in the church for the need to help disciples cultivate an intimate relationship with God by providing the needed bible study, developing a spirit-filled campaign and modeling. My personal relationship with God has led me to understand that as a Christian I should no more steal from God than I would from anyone.... I understand that all I have comes from God, and it is out of my love and respect for my Father. I would honor Him with the first fruits from which he so generously has provided for my livelihood. The motivation to give must be rooted in ones personal relationship with God and blessing the Lord with ones first fruits through tithing and a spirit of gratitude.
