My biggest concern is the lack of teaching and personal demonstration of R & R, rest and recreation, from the leaders of bigger churches. There seems to be increasing pressure applied to staff and lay leaders alike, to perform at ever increasing higher levels. The lovely sense of rigteousness, peace and joy in the Spirit, which God instructs us all to seek and find, is being steadily replaced by the attitude of "I've got to get it right"; very short, sometimes intensive attempts to bring a little peace of mind before the next stressful onslaught; and quick fixes to bring some happiness. The focus seems to be on "doing more" for God rather than on "being more" like Him. It is about relationship and it takes time to build good relationships and maintain them. If church leadership spent a little less time reviving tired staff and revving them up, and more time rest and restoration, everyone would get a little closer to God and each other and productivity would increase.

Alot of the time we focus on the trees instead of the forest. It is so easy to find our congragations focusing inward. When this begins to happen it is usually a short time and bigger problems come along and they are usually not good. The leaders need to take a stand and focus outward, to go make to your vision statement and re-lay the foundation of your calling. This takes time and patients, but the rewards are tremenous.

I have to agree with Jill, it's as if Christians today just seem to come to Church because it's the "thing to do." There is no depth to their worship, to their studies, to their passion for Christ. Sometimes I will be teaching a very deep issue concerning our Lord, and all I see looking back at me are empty eyes. It saddens me so much. People have become so shallow and materialistic, so self-absorbed that they can't even concentrate long enough on the Lord and His Word to gain any benefit. How heartbroken He must be.

My major concern is being unable to reach a lost soul in a manner that would quickly compel him or her to believe in the redemptive acts of Christ and turn back to God our Father the source of all needs. Many of the young people in my culture desire the Kingdom life although they do not what to follow the path least traveled to obtain it. The way Christ taught. Some of the resistance is due to erroneous teaching and a lack of dedicated leaders who are not all wrapped up into self interest. I feel a constant mourning in my spirit for the young men and women of my culture who are truly lost and do not recognize that undesirable conditions can be turned around if only they would trust and obey God way of doing things.

Lack of finances to pay staff properly and to do the ministry. The irony of a pastor's lifestyle where we are so consumed with ministry that we don't have time for non-christian friends, or for serving our neighbor in need. And the pressure on my marriage. A cranky wife at home is no fun and makes ministry a greater burden than God intended.
