Ten Ideas for Everyday Outreach
No elaborate planning necessary.
1. Pay attention to the people around you in your neighborhood or at work. Send up an arrow prayer as you walk by them. 2. Be mindful of those who serve you—bank tellers, grocery store clerks, fast food workers. Look them in the eye and tell them you appreciate their service. 3. Leave a note of encouragement on a coworker's desk or on the windshield of their car. 4. When you walk past a piece of trash on the ground, pick it up and throw it in a garbage can. 5. When someone says they're having a bad day, stop and ask if you can pray for them right there. 6. At the drive-thru, pay for the meal of the person behind you. 7. Stop and talk with a homeless person. Find out their story. 8. Before leaving a restaurant, jot a thank you note to your server and leave it on the table or call the manager over and explain how much you enjoyed the service. 9. Go out of your way to be friendly to a prickly person. 10. When you're talking with someone, give them the gift of your full attention. |

I just prayerfully read in Operation World about Uruguay...1998-2005 doubled in churches and believers..We in Northamerica must do something WRONG. And I agree with Tom....None of these 10 points we see that he dropped the Gospel on them, Love them no question asked

I whole-heartily agree with you. But it seems as if everyone is trying to find a reason for our churches and spirituality failing and falling . I see it every day, and what I see is Christians are not known as christians. They don't live the life except on sunday mornings. When they walk out that door they are no different from all the other millions. They should step out the door and be like a Beacon "The Light Of Christ". Everyone around them should feel and know they are christians. I would venture to say that 9 out of10 people never invite someone to church and mean it. I found this because I am an out-reach minister and this I hear all the time. Please let's do what the Lord ask and spread the word. God Bless Jim

As an outreach pastor I have to comment. Tom I agree with you and I hear you. However, the reason that 95% of churches in America are declining is in part because we(the church) have not worked on relationships. We have for a century expected people to simply come in the doors and be changed just because we tell them. It's our actions not our words that compell them to seek Him.They (non-believers) won't hear you if they don't trust you, and they won't trust you if they don't know you. They won't know you until they experience your everyday acts of kindness.

Want a quick tip to help you reach out and gently allow people to figure out that you are a Christ-follower? Simply make a point WITHOUT FAIL to stop and say a SHORT, SILENT grace over your food before you eat, REGARDLESS of where you are and REGARDLESS of who you are with. You DO NOT ask anyone to join you, you just stop and do it yourself. You have every right in the world to do this, so don't be afraid. I have found that this opens the door for many, many productive spiritually-oriented conversations either right then or in the future with the person(s) you are with.
